The world is constantly changing including the education system to cater the needs of the students based on the demands of the society. The 21st century education system has been constantly evolving from STEM to STEAM and eventually to STREAM. Development of education system is needed to be able to prepare young learners for innovation in technology.
Arrahmaan International School inculcates every possible ways to integrate Science, Technology, Reading, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics (S.T.R.E.A.M) through Project Based Learning. Project Based Learning is a tool to incorporate STREAM and thereby develop the 21st century skills among our students. PBL is nothing but a student-centered pedagogy in which students learn about a subject through the experience of solving an open-ended problem. STREAM-PBL is a comprehensive, unique and holistic educational approach into the teaching and learning process right from Kindergarten level. This approach allows the students to apply their learning in real life situations. It aims to hone student to become equipped as future leaders and critical thinkers. As the education field strives to differentiate and personalize learning to cater to each student, two related movements are gaining attention: competency-based education and blended learning. In competency-based models, students advance based on mastery, rather than according to the traditional methods of counting progress in terms of time or credit hours. Blended learning is a method of delivering learning experiences; in essence, it is any formal education program that combines online learning and brick-and-mortar schools.
Arrahmaan aims to deliver high-quality competency-based lessons with blended model that focuses on outcomes. Competency is a set of skills, abilities, knowledge that helps an individual perform a given task in real life. Every learning should go into the imbibing of skills that will help the individual perform tasks or take actions to lead a productive and joyful life. Students should be empowered to determine the extent of their competency to be achieved.
Competency Based Learning with Blended Model blends the best of online learning and traditional classroom learning, that provides a wholesome experience to teachers and outcome based personalized learning for learners. Our blended model allows students to advance based on their ability to master a skill or competency at their own pace regardless of environment. Tailored to meet different learning abilities and can lead to more efficient student outcomes. Built around clearly defined competencies and measurable learning objectives that demonstrate mastery of those competencies.
Blended learning stands to support competency-based education in at least four overarching ways. First, online content can offer a continuum of learning along which students can progress at a flexible pace. Second, when students learn through online learning, testing can occur on demand—that is, when students are ready to be assessed, not before or after. Third, online content can be deployed in a more modular manner than traditional face-to-face instruction, which in turn offers students multiple pathways to mastery, as opposed to a single lesson or textbook. Finally, blended learning can support our school systems attempting to take competency-based education to scale by providing tools to personalize learning for each student.
We implement Whole Brain Teaching which promotes a high-energy, hyper-focused method where teachers use game-like challenges, key words, and motivational methods, while eliciting continuous spoken responses from their students to keep them fully engaged every minute. Children being children have fun and learn at the same time. It is an exciting method of delivering instruction that keeps students actively engaged in the learning process. Because students are moving, talking, writing, reading, and THINKING, they are using all parts of their brains.
“Spelling and reading build and rely on the same mental representation of a word. Knowing the spelling of a word makes the representation of it sturdy and accessible for fluent reading.” Students are given spell bee sheets every month grade wise and practice has been given during the “0 period”. Spelling looks into more than just the arrangement of letters. Learning to spell enhances children’s reading and writing. We also focus on the meaning of words. The more words learned, the easier it becomes to identify new words, how to pronounce them and their meaning. Our purpose is to help students improve their spelling, increase their vocabularies, learn concepts and develop correct English usage that will help them all their lives. Spell Bee competition will be conducted every year through which children learn how to present themselves, accept correction when wrong and gain confidence. Spelling bees are a great way to learn from each other and create healthy competitive spirit.
Speed Math Master Worksheets which have practice sums with minute marker develop mental calculation skills, improve concentration ability, and boost critical thinking skills of the students. Teachers provide just enough guidance for their students to be able to do the exercises on their own. As a result, our students learn that they can do anything if they try, build self-esteem, and develop the ability to take on new challenges for themselves. At home, you’ll help and oversee your child’s progress approximately 30 minutes a day, until self-learning begins.
Worksheets will be distributed every week according to the level of the students which have to be completed at home. Parents are asked to make photocopies according to the need of the students. Students should practice the given Speed Math Master Worksheets daily and note down the starting time and finishing time to measure the time taken to complete the worksheets. At the beginning it will take nearly about 60 minutes to complete but later with frequent practice the time taken will get reduce. With each worksheet, you’ll find your child improving in speed and accuracy of math skills.
In order to prepare students for future competitive exams and to test students’ aptitude as well as the knowledge of a particular subject Olympiad Practice has been given and Olympiad Examinations are conducted through private organization like Unified Council. This examination helps to identify students’ capability and real potential that may help them survive better in today’s modern competitive world. We motivate students to endeavor for better and deeper understanding of scientific facts to enhance their reasoning, analytical and problem-solving skills. We also bring out the areas lacking proficiency so that so that a proper orientation can be given to improve in that area.
